Local Law 152 – New York City’s Gas Pipe Inspection Law – has been required for specific districts every year since 2020. But, because of the pandemic and confusion over the law, NYC was not actively fining properties that missed deadlines.
But that has changed overnight, and by a substantial margin. Now, all properties that missed the LL 152 deadlines in 2020, 2021, and 2022 deadlines are at risk for receiving fines and violations. Unless you’re in district 11, 12, 14, 15, or 17 (the only districts left that have not been required to complete an LL 152 inspection), if you haven’t completed your inspection, you’re at risk for a fine – if you haven’t received one already.
What Can You Do?
It’s not entirely clear if there is a way to prevent the fine or have the fine removed, unless you did happen pick up a Local Law 152 inspection. The city has not provided any evidence that they will allow someone to cancel a fine, which can be as much as $10,000. Should we receive word that there is a way to remove LL 152 fines, we will update you accordingly.
But, if the LL 152 violation fines were not enough, another issue that can arise if you failed to perform your LL 152 inspection is you could have your gas line turned off. If that happens, you will need a master plumber in NYC to come provide you with the inspection in order to have your gas line turned back on. Empire Plumbing can provide that, serving all throughout New York City, but especially the Brooklyn area including Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Gravesend, and Midwood.
